The birth of this short can be traced back one year prior, when my DP Jens Schaffner and I were planning a project for a client. This ultimately didn’t came to be for scheduling reasons. Amongst other things it would have included a fight scene (but only with 5 warriors). We were quite sad, the idea of shooting medieval fighters had excited us, as we never did this before.

In the winter of 17/18 Jens approached me – he couldn’t let the images go after all. So we round up our crew mates and reached out to all the medieval re-enactors, LARP players and medieval enthusiasts we could find in Würzburg. The goal was not necessarily to tell a story, but to show that we create gripping medieval footage, with basically no resources. And that we did, with lots of help from passionate people.

There’s a bunch of things to say about the final result (i.e. how continuity is all over the place), but to this day this is one of the most fun projects I ever worked on. Everyone was so committed, that even when we had to shoot an additional third day (the weather spoiled our fun a little) we only got more involved and excited.

And once again – I learned a lot. Especially about directing movement.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
